‘Frasier’ may still have life in it yet

Grammer says he’d be willing to return for a 12th season

Reports of the demise of “Frasier” may be exaggerated. There’s a possibility the NBC series, widely expected to be in its final season, may be back.

IN TALK-SHOW appearances this week, series star Kelsey Grammer suggested he would be willing to return as Dr. Frasier Crane for a 12th season.

“If someone called and said, ‘We really want you back for another year,’ I’d probably figure out some way to make that happen,” Grammer said Monday on CBS’s “The Late Show With Craig Kilborn.” “But that call hasn’t come.”

NBC, however, has yet to officially deem this the final year for “Frasier.” And there’s precedent for a resurrection — NBC’s “Friends” was expected to wrap last season but came back for one more year.

“The door is still ajar, and you know what happened the last time I left the door ajar,” NBC Entertainment President Jeff Zucker told Daily Variety.

Network interest may be enhanced by the fact that NBC has had trouble grooming a new generation of sitcom hits, with the recent cancelation of the much-hyped “Coupling.”
