No one's perfect, and fans of "The Following" know that that applies to hero Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) as well. Yes, he's the former FBI agent who caught the brilliant serial killer Joe Carroll (played by James Purefoy), but as Monday's episode titled "The Poet's Fire" will reveal, Hardy himself apparently fell for Carroll's charms as well once upon a time.

In a new sneak peek, the show goes back in time to show how the two men first got to know each other ... and not quite as detective and suspect. Sure, Hardy's a smart guy, but Carroll -- as viewers all know -- is an even better manipulator, something the ex-FBI agent didn't pick up on right away.

"One of the key things that Ryan sees in Joe Carroll is he understands why people fall in love with him, because in this flashback, we're going to see that (Ryan) kind of fell in love with (Joe)," executive producer Marcos Seiga says in the FOX video.

"The Following" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
