If Matt Lauer thought he'd put Ellen DeGeneres' racy "Fifty Shades of Grey" gag behind him, well, he was wrong!

Lauer stopped by DeGeneres' show for a chat Thursday, and she couldn't resist reminding her audience of the altered TODAY clip she whipped up, in which he underwent a major digital makeover.

Heck, we can't resist either!

The only problem with that mocked-up video is that many viewers were convinced there was nothing mock about it.

"You can't believe how many people tweeted me and said, 'You're supposed to be a journalist! How can you dress in leather — especially S&M?'" Lauer told DeGeneres before adding a not-so-sincere, "So thank you!"

"Well, you're welcome!" DeGeneres beamed.

Then she gave him another reason to really thank her, in the form of a framed portrait of him in that unforgettable getup.

"I will hang it on my favorite wall," he said with a smile.

As he revealed on TODAY Thursday, that wall is in his dressing room wall.

So, is the "Fifty Shades" fun finally over now? Well, don't count on it. DeGeneres may be finished with it, but there's still a matter of payback.

"Revenge is a dish best served cold," Lauer told her. "The wheels are turning."

We can't wait to see the results!

Catch all of the fun on Thursday's episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
