A former Bahamas senator has been granted bail ahead of trial on charges she conspired to help extort $25 million from actor John Travolta.

Pleasant Bridgewater was not required to enter a plea Wednesday.

Police say Bridgewater allegedly aided an ambulance driver who threatened to release a document related to the celebrity’s 16-year-old son. Jett Travolta died of a seizure earlier this month at a family vacation home on Grand Bahama island.

The document would have cleared emergency responders of liability if the family refused an ambulance, but police say it did not come into play.

Celebrity news Web site TMZ.com has reported that Travolta considered flying his son to Florida before he was driven to a hospital.
