Ex-'Idol' judge DioGuardi got high on Abdul's brownies

Former “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi was in for a shock when she treated herself to some sweets at the home of fellow ex-panelist Paula Abdul. During a Wednesday appearance on “Lopez Tonight,” DioGuardi recalled the bad reaction she had to an unexpected batch of marijuana-packed brownies.

“(Paula’s) maid at the time found some brownies and took them out of the freezer and left them in the refrigerator,” DioGuardi told host George Lopez. “I hadn’t really eaten much that night. I came home and there were these little nuggets — you know, take six, not a lot.”

Well, not a lot when chocolate is the strongest ingredient in the mix. In this case, however, the songwriter-turned-reality TV star considered six more than enough.

“Six hours later I was like, 'Hey, what's going on?'” she said. “Oh, yeah, I fell out of bed, on the floor, I stumbled downstairs and I was like, ‘Brain tumor!' And the ambulance guy comes and is like, 'This b**** is as high as a kite.’”

Although the offending snacks were at Abdul’s house, in her fridge and offered up by her maid, DioGuardi insists the brownies weren’t really Abdul’s doing.

“Someone had left them from a party and froze them,” DioGuardi explained. “(The maid) had one. She went to the hospital. I had six and almost died.”

In another "Idol' related memory, DioGuardi told Lopez about an encounter she had with current judge Steven Tyler. In fact, according to DioGuaridi, Tyler wouldn’t even be an “Idol” judge had it not been for that encounter.

After a songwriting session turned into a surprise meet-up with the Aerosmith frontman, DioGuardi decided the rocker might be right for the reality TV talent show.

“He was so kind and funny and talented that I gave his name to the (show’s) producers,” she said. “(Then) I texted (Steven) and said, ‘Hey, do you want to be on 'American Idol'?’ And he’s like, ‘Does it have good ratings?’”

The rest is "Idol" history.
