Eliminated 'Voice' contestant Kat Robichaud: Show should be about more than vocals

Kat Robichaud’s time finally ran out on Tuesday's episode of “The Voice,” and she saw it coming.

“I woke up (Tuesday) morning pretty much preparing to be in the bottom three and preparing myself to go home just because I've been in the bottom three twice," the singer told TODAY after the show. "Although I feel like I gave a great performance and I was really proud of it, people have made their minds up.

“And it's OK. I gained a lot of followers that I'm really excited to have, and I know a lot of people voted for me, and I'm thankful for them.”

With dancers in her performance this week and crowd-surfing the week before, Kat, who was on coach CeeLo Green's team, said she believes “The Voice” should pay more attention to performance and theatricality, not just vocal ability.

“Here's the thing: What's going to happen when somebody with a great voice just goes and stands, and doesn't know what to do and doesn't know how to talk to an audience?" she said. "I think performance is a really big part of it. At least it is for me. I know I don't like to go and see a band where the lead singer just stands there. I like to see theatrics.”

Even though she had some constructive criticism, Kat also made clear that she appreciated all of her time in the competition.

“I think it would be greedy for me to sit here and say, 'I want more.' My dreams literally have come true on the show and I can't say anything bad about anybody,” she reflected. “It's just the way that it goes, and my time was now.”
