British band Depeche Mode have cancelled a planned concert in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv due to violence in the Middle East.

"Depeche Mode regretfully announce the cancellation of their scheduled concert on August 3rd, 2006, at Hayarkon Park, following the latest developments," the band said on their Web site.

"Unfortunately, at present there is no way to reschedule the concert, as this is the end of the Depeche Mode world tour. The band apologise to the fans, and thank them for their understanding," it added.

The Jerusalem Post said around 40,000 people had bought tickets for the heavily promoted show.
