Actor David Arquette called in to Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show on Monday to confess that after more than two years of sobriety, he is now drinking "a lot."

Stern asked the "Scream" movie star if he were able to stop after one or two drinks, and the actor admitted he was not. "I'm a drinker, so yes, I drink a lot," he said. In response to Stern's asking if he used marijuana, the actor said, "Yeah, I'll smoke a little weed."

Arquette told the radio host that sobriety did not feel right for him. "I've been sober for two years and four months," he told Stern. "And I was feeling like I wasn't being that true to myself, like what I enjoy and this and that."

Arquette spent time in rehab for alcohol and other issues in 2011.

Stern asked the actor if his former wife, "Friends" star Courteney Cox, was supportive of him, and Arquette called her "super cool," saying, "Everybody's getting along and understanding."

Arquette bluntly told Stern he was afraid to go into too much detail about his drinking for fear of the public reaction. "I'm afraid to be honest with you and with the world because people are so cruel," he said.

The actor did say that he was aware he wasn't in an ideal situation.

"I got my own problems, yes, and I will sort them out," he said. "I go to a therapist, I really am working on myself."
