Teen star Miley Cyrus has cast aside any resemblance to her Disney alter ego Hannah Montana in a racy music video for her new single "Can't be Tamed", which features the 17 year-old pole dancing in a black bodice.

Cyrus takes a leaf out of the style books of Lady Gaga and Britney Spears in the video, which was released late on Tuesday.

Wearing black bird wings, thigh-high boots, and dancing inside a giant birdcage, the Disney Channel teen sensation sings, "If you're going to be my man, understand, I can't be tamed."

Cyrus has recently sought to break free of her family-friendly image even as Disney Channel prepares in July to air the last series of her hit TV show "Hannah Montana."

The "Hannah Montana” star is a money-making sensation in music, TV and film.

"The video isn't about being sexy or about who can wear less clothes. It's about explaining the song and living the lyrics," she told celebrity web site E! Online. "I don't want to be in a cage. I want to be free and do what I love."

Cyrus was criticized by some parents groups last August for briefly swinging on a pole on an ice-cream cart during a performance of her hit single "Party in the U.S.A" at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.

The new music video is from the album of the same name, "Can't be Tamed", which is due to be released on June 22. Cyrus has said it will be her last music album for awhile as she concentrates on acting.

She starred last month as a rebellious teen in the romantic drama "The Last Song," her first movie in which she has not played either herself or Hannah Montana. She told reporters at the time that she wanted to put her successful singing career on hold after the 2010 album to focus on a movie career.

Cyrus shot to worldwide fame in 2006 playing a teen with a secret life as a pop star in "Hannah Montana," which quickly became Disney Channel's most popular TV show. It also launched a singing career which gave her four No.1 Billboard albums in three years.
