We're not sure if Tom Cruise got a tie and a painted "World's Greatest Dad" mug for Father's Day this year, but that particular superstar patriarch aside, the stars really are just like us!
After all, you spent your Father's Day with your tabloid-trailed kids and supermodel wife in an exotic and warm locale while running the free world and avoiding questions about the more illegitimate members of your clan, too, right?
OK, so maybe they're not like us, after all. But that doesn't mean we can't live vicariously through them, particularly in times of celebration. So how did Cruise, Mel Gibson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, John Travolta, Neil Patrick Harris, Liev Schreiber, Jon Stewart and even Barack Obama spend their Father's Day?
Tom Cruise: Decked out in matching nautical, nouveau riche boat attire, Tom, wife Katie Holmes and daughter Suri got their yacht on in Miami, where Cruise has been busy filming Rock of Ages. There was no sign of Tom's older kids, Connor and Isabella, but the happy trio spent the day at the marina, where they took a boat ride around the city.
Mel Gibson: Proving that just because you're a sucky partner doesn't mean you're a bad parent (aside from that whole slightly murky, might have grazed her thing), Mel spent the day with 18-month-old Lucia, his daughter with Oksana Grigorieva, at a Malibu recreational center. There was no sign of his other six sons or daughter, or of his rumored new girlfriend, model Stella Mouzi.
Arnold Schwarzenegger: Speaking of infamous fathers, Arnie spent a quiet day with Christopher, his youngest son with Maria Shriver. Guess the others were busy. Or still not on speaking terms. Either way, dressed casually in jeans and a green Army t-shirt, the governator turned sperminator shared lunch at Malibu's Marmalade Cafe with his 13-year-old son. Er, one of his 13-year-old sons.
John Travolta: John, Kelly Preston and kids Ella, 11, and Benjamin, 6 months, spent their family holiday in Paris, where the clan has been vacationing. The congenial family was spotted by fans and happily posed for shots outside the Trocadero.
Liev Schreiber: It was a family day for Liev, as he and partner Naomi Watts, along with sons Samuel, 3, and Alexander, 1, strolled through the Big Apple with their dog, spending some time splashing around in a park fountain after grabbing brunch.
Tom Brady: What awkwardness? It was family first over the weekend, as Tom and wife Gisele Bndchen spent the afternoon at Malibu's Taverna Tony restaurant with 18-month-old son Benjamin and Tom's 3-year-old son John, with former partner Bridget Moynahan. Way to keep it civil, guys.
Barack Obama: How does the leader of the free world spent Father's Day? By getting treated to ice cream. Barack, Michelle, Sasha and Malia all made a day of it by heading out to get some scoops at Georgetown's Thomas Sweet shop before the girls left for their African vacation. Earlier in the day, the commander-in-chief tweeted, "Being a father is sometimes my hardest but always my most rewarding job. Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there. -BO"
Peter Facinelli: It was a Father's Day at sea for Jennie Garth's Twilight-starring better half. "Playing the role of 'Dad' for the summer," he tweeted. "Just touched down in Barcelona. Taking my kids on a cruise. Ill send you guys pics. #EuroCruise :)"
Jon Stewart: We're sure the rest of his day was a little more family-centric, but we at least know how The Daily Show host spent his Father's Day morning--by calling out the host of Fox News Sunday.
Neil Patrick Harris: Fresh from his winning Tony's hosting gig, NPH and fellow dad David Burtka made a day of it by taking twins Gideon and Harper out for a stroll in sunny Sherman Oaks.
Jerry O'Connell: There was no mama in sight for this proud papa, who was sans wife Rebecca Romijn, but accompanied instead by twin 2-year-old daughters Dolly and Charlie yesterday. The happy trio spent the afternoon wandering around the star's home in Calabasas, Calif.
Hugh Jackman: The proud papa, with wife Deborra-Lee Furness and daughter Ava (and the family pooch) were spotted running through the streets of New York after sharing a Father's Day lunch.
