For Clay Aiken, the measure of a man apparently isn't in album sales.

The American Idol alum is rethinking the future amid rumors that his current label, Universal-based Decca Records, has dropped him from its roster following his fifth album, Tried and True, which hit stores last summer.

"There is no upcoming album at this time," Aiken told the Hollywood Reporter. "I am focusing on my live show and heading out on tour this week for the next few months. The truth is, I have no desire to get back into the studio any time soon."

If you say so, Clay.

Of course, considering his tanking sales, the music-buying public seems fairly disinterested in any new album as well.

The 32-year-old singer's audience has dwindled drastically since his post-Idol solo debut with 2003's Measure of a Man, which sold 2.8 million copies. His holiday-themed follow-up, Merry Christmas With Love, tallied 1.4 million, while 2006's A Thousand Different Ways sold 530,000 and 2008's On My Way There moved just 163,000. All those albums were released by RCA, which let him go two years ago. With last year's Decca-issued Tried and True, his sales bottomed out at 56,000.

Decca, home to such artists as Bryan Adams, Annie Lennox, Elton John, Sting and Andrea Bocelli, hasn't discussed Aiken's contract or how many albums it called for. In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, a label rep would only say that she "didn't know of any plans at this time to release a future album with Clay."

For his part, Aiken dismissed the notion that he was axed, claiming that his deal was on an album-by-album basis.

"There has never been a long-term label deal in place," he said, "but when there is new album to discuss, I will discuss it with the label."

Hey, there's always Broadway, Clay!

Aiken's next performance is slated for Miami on Thursday night.
