Christina Aguilera is opening up about why she made the decision to divorce Jordan Bratman, her husband of five years.

"Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it," she said in an interview with People magazine. "I really didn't want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our marriage up."

Aguilera said that she felt that divorcing Bratman would ultimately be the best thing for their 2-year-old son, Max.

"When you're unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer. That's the last thing I wanted for my son," she said.

Aguilera, who is currently starring in "Burlesque" alongside Cher, has been spotted out and about with Matthew Rutler, who was a set assistant on the film.

"He's the kind of person you could spend hours with on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it's daylight," she told People.
