CBS plans memorial for ‘60 Minutes’ founder

CBS is planning a memorial service for the creator and longtime executive producer of "60 Minutes."The service for television pioneer Don Hewitt will be held Monday at the Time Warner Center in New York. CBS is planning a memorial service for the creator and longtime executive producer of "60 Minutes."

The service for television pioneer Don Hewitt will be held Monday at the Time Warner Center in New York. Hewitt died of cancer in August at age 86.

In addition to his work at "60 Minutes," Hewitt also produced the first televised presidential debate in 1960.

Speakers at the memorial service will include CBS chief executive Leslie Moonves (MOON'-vess), actor Alan Alda, "60 Minutes" correspondent Morley Safer and Hewitt's successor at the helm of the newsmagazine, Jeff Fager.

CBS paid tribute to the late longtime anchor Walter Cronkite in a public memorial service a month ago.
