Two of Hollywood's biggest superstars team up in "The Bounty Hunter," and this particular hunter is a little more stylish than mulleted Dog from the reality TV show. Gerard Butler plays Milo, a struggling bail-enforcement agent who's thrilled when he gets to take in his ex-wife Nicole, played by Jennifer Aniston. Somehow things get all tangled up and the duo end up running for their lives. (Opens March 19.)
She's a long way from "Twilight." Kristen Stewart, best known as aspiring vampire Bella Swan, takes on another role with bite when she plays rocker Joan Jett in "The Runaways." Dakota Fanning plays vocalist Cherie Currie, and the film is partially based on her autobiography. Hello, world, I'm your wild girl. Check out the trailer. (Opens March 19.)
Book clubs the world around have been paging through "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," the first in a trilogy by Swedish author Stieg Larsson. Larsson's own story is almost as fascinating as that of his characters — his books were published after his death, and due to some very weird developments and a strange Swedish law, his estate went to his father and brother, not his long-term partner. Oh yes, and the book has even more twists and turns. Watch the trailer here. (Opens March 19.)
Space movies are really what IMAX was made for, and the technology is put to stunning use in "Hubble 3D," a breathtaking short film capturing astronauts on the Space Shuttle Atlantis working to repair the space telescope in the spring of 2009. You've never felt this much like you actually blasted off with the astronauts and floated around the shuttle with them, nibbling tortillas, adjusting space suits and getting down to the very serious — and visually stunning — business at hand. Leonardo DiCaprio narrates. Get a teaser with the trailer. (Opens March 19.)
DVDFew "Mystery Science Theater 3000" fans have seen the very first nationally aired episode, "The Crawling Eye," which aired in 1999. Now's your chance — it's one of four MST3K movies included in the latest box set. Other films include "The Beatniks," "Blood Waters of Dr. Z" and "The Final Sacrifice." So ... Rowsdower ... is that a stupid name, or ...? (MSTies will get the joke!) The set also includes a few bonus features and a mini-poster for each episode. (Out on DVD March 16.)
The latest Disney princess is the only black one. "The Princess and the Frog" comes to DVD this week. Lovely Tiana's story is set in New Orleans, where she meets a frog prince, plants a kiss on him, and family-friendly craziness ensues.
TVGather the kiddos for one of those stunning specials the Discovery Channel does so well. The 11-part series "Life" covers everything from cheetahs to Komodo dragons to great apes. The photography is stunning, of course. Seeing something like this on the screen makes you wonder why anyone devotes valuable viewing time to "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." ("Life" premieres March 21, 8 p.m., Discovery Channel, and runs Sundays through April 18.)
