SOFIA (Reuters Life!) - Madonna has been condemned by Bulgaria's Orthodox Church because of her disrespectful and intolerant attitude toward Christians.
The American singer has upset the clergy in predominantly Christian Bulgaria by staging a concert in Sofia on August 29, when Orthodox Christians mark the beheading of Saint John the Baptist by fasting for a day.
"The Holy Synod expresses its disapproval and disagreement with such musical artistic events which, in many cases, openly profane Christian symbols and events," the church said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.
"Louise Esther Ciccone, with almost every concert in a Christian country, displays a disrespectful and intolerant attitude to the religious feelings of the Christians there."
Earlier this month a group of Polish nationalists condemned Madonna's debut concert in Warsaw, part of her "Sticky and Sweet" world tour, and branded her "a crypto-Satanist."
Madonna has often annoyed conservative Christians, kissing an actor playing Jesus in one of her videos and staging a crucifixion scene on her last world tour.
