Britney ready to become a Brit

Al Gore, TV mogul and Timberlake’s comedic future. By Jeannette Walls.

Looks like Britney Spears may be the next disillusioned American blonde to cross the pond.

The ex-teen vixen — who has taken a public relations drubbing lately — is said to be “quite taken” with London and is planning to set up home there, much like Gwyneth Paltrow and Britney’s new best gal pal, Madonna. “She’s been looking at places in and around London,” says our source, who adds that Madonna has been instrumental in Britney’s newfound Anglophile-status. “First, the snogging, then the Kabbalah, now this,” says the source of Madonna’s influence over Britney. “Of course, she has strong ties in the U.S. and will still keep her places there.”

Media mogul

Will Al Gore lose his day job?

The former vice president is looking to buy a television station, and a source says if the deal goes through, his current employer plans to “seriously re-evaluate” his role at the company.

Not long after Gore lost the 2000 election, he became vice-chairman of Los Angeles-based Metropolitan West Financial. The source says that will “most likely” change if Gore’s deal to buy Newsworld International, a small Canada-based TV station, goes through. “The word is that his role at Met West may be eliminated or greatly reduced, though they might keep him on in some capacity — in name only,” says a source.

“I can’t comment,” a Metropolitan West rep told the Scoop. “As of right now, we have nothing to share.”

Notes from all over

Don’t be surprised if Justin Timberlake hits the big screen. The Parliament in Australia has been debating the various flaws in their nation’s higher education, and critics arguing that the system needs an overhaul have been citing a Ph.D-based study of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s divorce. . ... Speaking of education, Mariah Carey might want to brush up on her geography a bit. The singer kept telling a crowd how great it was to be singing in Amsterdam. Problem was, she was in Rotterdam.
