Could Britney Spears be ready to show her “true colors?”
The pop princess is expected to join Cyndi Lauper's “True Colors” tour for a special performance next weekend, reports People magazine.
According to Spears’ choreographer, Mischa Gabriel, Britney will join Lauper, Erasure, Debbie Harry, The Dresden Dolls, The MisShapes with special guest Jeffree Star and host Margaret Cho live onstage at the tour’s June 30 performance at L.A.'s Greek Theater.
The “True Colors” tour was created by Lauper to benefit various organizations that provide support to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. While Lauper has been a fixture on the tour, other special guests — including Indigo Girls, Rufus Wainwright and Rosie O'Donnell — have leant their talent and support at select dates.
In preparation for the appearance, Britney reportedly held auditions for male backup dancers on June 7 at the Millennium Dance Complex in North Hollywood.
Out of nearly 150 hopefuls, 21 of them were narrowed down for a final callback at the Millennium on June 22.
Although Spears oversaw the initial auditions on June 7, she left the final callbacks up to her two longtime trusted female backup dancers, Criscilla Crossland and Lark, who reportedly videotaped the performances for Spears to observe at a later time. According to People, she will choose two of her favorite auditioners to join her for the “True Colors” show.
Whether they get the gig or not, the auditioning men were all privy to a special treat: They reportedly danced to a new, unreleased Britney Spears song for their tryouts.
“It was dope. It reminded me of that one song you hear at 1:50 a.m., when they call ‘last call’ at a club,” dancer Sam Pete is quoted as saying. “And it's the hottest, nastiest song you've ever heard in your life, and you've just got to put your drink down and dance to it. You've got no choice. Your body is insisting on it.”
