Emmy winner Anna Gunn, known for her tour de force performance on "Breaking Bad," will star in Fox's adaptation of BBC's well-received "Broadchurch," the network announced Monday.
The Fox limited series will be titled "Gracepoint" and also stars David Tennant, who plays the lead in the original. Gunn will play detective Ellie Miller who has to investigate a murder in her hometown with an irritable partner (Tennant) who is given a promotion she was expecting for herself. The case hits painfully close to home--the victim is a young boy who was a friend of her son's.
Fox also announced that two-time Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver ("Silver Linings Playbook") has been cast in the role of a mysterious woman who moves to the town with her dog.
The original series' creator Chris Chibnall ("Dr. Who" and "Camelot") will produce the 10-episode series, which will begin in filming in January and air during the 2014 TV season.
Here's a clip from "Broadchurch," which aired on BBC America this year.
Gunn is the first lead "Breaking Bad" actor to book a new TV series. But several of the show's supporting players have already been working elsewhere on the small screen: Betsy Brandt plays Michael J. Fox's wife on NBC's "The Michael J. Fox Show;" Dean Norris played the lead villain on CBS's summer hit, "Under the Dome;" Giancarlo Esposito is a lead on NBC's "Revolution;" and R.J. Mitte will have a recurring role on "Switched at Birth" on ABC Family. Bob Odenkirk will get to live in Saul's shoes a little longer in "Better call Saul," a spin-off being developed by the "Breaking Bad" producers for AMC.
