At one point during the final performance of MTV's Video Music Awards, we spotted a tweet that said something like, "They decided to hold an awards show during a Beyoncé concert."
The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award winner did indeed steal the show Sunday night, closing it out with a lengthy mini-concert. It started with the singer saying, "MTV, welcome to my world," and finished with her husband Jay Z and daughter Blue Ivy helping fill out the cutest family photo op of the year on stage.
On the red carpet before the big show, Beyoncé rocked a black lace and beaded Nicolas Jebran gown. The look served as an important reminder that Queen Bey doesn't do this.
Once she took the stage at the end of the night, it was nearly 20 minutes before she stepped off again. With a troupe of backup dancers to support her on stage and her family singing along from the front row, the singer ripped through songs from her current self-titled album.
Holding their daughter in his arms, Jay Z called Beyoncé the "greatest living entertainer" as he handed her the Moon Man to honor her lifetime of achievements.
"I have nothing to say but I am filled with so much gratitude," Beyoncé said as she dabbed tears from her eyes and beamed with her family to end the show.
