‘Bachelor’ says he’s not a complete jerk

Flip-flopping “Bachelor” Jason Mesnick is still trying to repair his tattered reputation after shocking viewers and his now-former fiancée on ABC’s “After the Final Rose.” In an interview with Mom Logic, the reality star explained that, despite the impression he may have made, he’s not really a complete jerk.

According to Mesnick, the final rose recipient, Melissa Rycroft, knew their relationship was over long before the season wrap-up aired, even if she wasn’t clear on all the details.

“I mean our last conversation was: ‘Are you gonna to wear the ring? Because you know we’re not together,’” he recalled. “And I think that she probably had some hopes still that maybe I was gonna change my mind, 'cause she was really upset. We didn’t talk a couple of days before we shot. And that’s OK. No matter what I said, she was going to be upset.”

Well, maybe. Rycroft might have been significantly less upset had Mesnick told her of his planned switcheroo with runner-up Molly Malaney prior to show time.

“(Melissa and I) talked about not being together over the phone but I had to tell her stuff in person, too,” Mesnick said. “I’m not as cowardly as it might seem or as much of a jerk as I might seem for doing it on camera. But that was my only chance to do it.”

Macchio gives Smith’s son ‘Karate Kid’ advice
It seems actor Ralph Macchio’s put his “Karate Kid” remake blues behind him. Though the star of the hit ’80s flick voiced his disappointment upon learning a new version was in the works, a call from A-lister Will Smith, whose 10-year-old son Jaden is set to reprise Macchio’s role, inspired a change of heart.

“It was very cool,” Macchio told E! News of his conversation with the senior Smith. “He called and said, ‘Would you mind getting on the phone with my son?’ I felt like Yoda to young Skywalker.”

As for the former “Kid’s” sage words to the new Daniel-san, Macchio kept it simple.

“I just told him to have fun,” he said. “That was my advice.”

Dish on the fly Actress Gwyneth Paltrow rarely talks about her marriage to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, but she recently opened up to Life & Style magazine about the woes of wedded life. “It’s hard!” Paltrow insisted. “Nothing is as good as it looks. Life is complicated, and there are always issues to overcome.” One of those issues could be the Life & Style interview, as she added, “(Chris is) going to kill me for talking about this.” … Don’t confuse Kelly Carlson with her “Nip/Tuck” alter ego Kimber. Unlike the porn star she portrays on the show, Carlson told In Touch Weekly she’s not that concerned about the quest for the perfect body. “I don’t let that control me,” she said. “I am definitely not a superficial person by any means. I just had half a cheeseburger!” Which is presumably half a carb-load more than Kimber would ever eat.
