Jessica Simpson is adding to her real estate portfolio. Simpson has closed on a one-bedroom penthouse suite at the Palms Resort and Casino in Vegas, the Palms announced March 4.
The logical follow-up question, “How much did it cost her,” is one the Palms is not answering, but some close to Simpson say she’s been toying with investing in real estate since her movie and record sales have been tepid at best. “She wants to invest in properties because she’s really starting to fear that her big money-earning days are over,” said one source who knows Simpson.
The transaction also raises the question as to whether this amounts to little more than a Palms publicity stunt — it certainly wouldn’t be the first time a celeb has been courted to raise the profile of a property.
Naomi Campbell reportedly moved into the Cipriani Wall Street condos for that reason, and Vanessa Minnillo (and by default, Nick Lachey) moved into the Atelier apartments on Manhattan’s west side at a deeply discounted cost in exchange for the management company being able to tout the celebs as tenants.
Regardless of the precedent for celebs having convenient housing arrangements,
Simpson’s camp says that "Yes, Jessica did buy a condo there," and the Palms rep maintains that “Jessica Simpson purchased her condo.” Better yet, she’ll be “among the first to experience the luxury high-rise when it opens its doors the first week of March.”
Justin and Jessica going strong
Despite multiple sources confirming that Justin Timberlake and Kate Hudson have gotten cozy (which their reps deny) since he started dating Jessica Biel, the singer, 27, showed Biel he was all hers on March 3 in New Orleans.
Us Weekly reports that Timberlake, who is filming “The Open Road” in various Louisiana cities, was overheard saying he was taking the star (who flew in days earlier from England, where she just wrapped “Easy Virtue”) out “for a special dinner” for her 26th birthday.
And don't think she made her trip to the Big Easy for a big blowout over Hudson. “There’s no tension surrounding those cheating rumors,” a pal of the pair told the magazine. “Everything’s fine.”
Madonna’s final Warner album
The Material Girl’s last album for longtime record label Warner Music, “Hard Candy,” is said to have a more urban feel than past albums, and features a track with Justin Timberlake.
It will be interesting to see how promotion and touring for “Hard Candy” turns out, since Madonna signed last fall a deal with Live Nation worth about $120 million over the next 10 years. It would be great to see Timberlake make an appearance with her on the road, but it seems unlikely that she’d want to create that kind of buzz for Warner while she’s got the new Live Nation deal waiting in the wings.
Poker tourney spoiler alert
Let’s hope that “Dancing With the Stars” contestant Shannon Elizabeth doesn’t believe in omens. The actress recently participated in the National Heads-Up Poker Championship Feb. 29 in Las Vegas, only to get knocked out in the first round of competition. She lost to pro player Andy Bloch. Last year, she made it to the tournament’s semifinals. (The tournament is a series of one-on-one games of No Limit Texas Hold ’Em, and will air seven consecutive Sundays beginning April 13.)
Elizabeth gets a chance to revive her competitive streak when “Dancing” returns for season six on March 17.
