Learning Music Monthly is an album-a-month project that asks its listeners for donations but gives its music away for free.

The album from December, called "The Greatest Event in Sports History," is about the only three-way tie in the history of the quiz show "Jeopardy!" and how the returning champion bet the exact amount necessary to make it happen, allowing all three contestants to receive prize money.

One song on the album, called "Trebek's Lament," imagines host Alex Trebek's problem with too much competition. The song symbolizes the way the Learning Music Monthly project relies on sharing.

"Trebek's Lament" by John Wood:

I wake up in the morning and I look at my face.

All those little hairs are growing at their own steady pace.

What can I do to stop this process?

They're just growing and I cut them off and they begin again

and I wonder...

(CHORUS)

Why's there got to be a winner in this game?

Can't we all just get along and ride the same?

Why's there got to be a winner in this game?

Can't we all just get along and ride the same wave?

Everyday I walk to work I try to go a different way.

But every newish path I take, where I'm ending up's the same.

I see the grass in the sidewalk grow. It dies and new blades replace.

I see the snow and the leaves change and I know it's all one season and I wonder...

(CHORUS)

Zeus, why have you put me here, to watch these ones compete?

(GODS: "For our entertainment")

To facilitate the gladiators, but to never gladiate.

(GODS: "Gladiator moderator, just wait")

One man just beats another, and he's sitting on the throne today.

Next week by another one he's beaten, and the circle carries on and on and on and on and on...

(CHORUS)
