Christina Aguilera has performed for millions of fans around the globe, but she still became star-struck when she met her “Burlesque” co-star, the legendary Cher.

“Part of the reason why Clint [Culpepper, President of Screen Gems] got [Cher] on board was because [he told her], ‘You don’t understand — [Christina] loves you,’” Christina told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson at the “Burlesque” junket on Sunday. “’She needs you to be in this movie with her, because she is such a huge fan… She would drink your bath water.’

“So when I went to the soundstage with my son on my hip and my flats on, I was so insecure,” Christina continued. “I was like, ‘Hi, Cher. I’m the one that wants to drink your bath water. That’s me — the obsessed fan stalker!’ We had a good laugh about it.”

Despite their slightly awkward initial meeting, Christina described Cher as “warm,” “down to earth,” and “welcoming.”

“To get advice [from] such a veteran in the business and such a strong woman — who doesn’t beat around the bush, who won’t give a compliment unless she really means it — was huge to me and for me,” Christina raved. “And it was nice walking away with a friend in Cher, you know? It’s nice!”

While it may seem that the 29-year-old star’s incredible vocal ability would make her an obvious choice for the film’s singer-dancer main character, Christina revealed that it was actually her 2007 stint on “Saturday Night Live” — and a “Sex and The City” sketch — that caught the attention of ”Burlesque’s” filmmakers.

“When I [played] Samantha, one of the many amazing women of ‘Sex and The City,’ Clint and Steve [Antin], the director, were both rolling with laughter,” Christina told Shaun. “[They] said, ‘She’s got comic chops and she’d be great in this role.’”

As for the “Beautiful” blonde’s personal life, Christina appears to be in good spirits and stronger than ever, despite filing for divorce last month from her husband of nearly five years, Jordan Bratman.

“Some moments are harder than others,” Christina told Shaun. “I’m under a lot of stuff right now as far as my work, and balancing everything as a mom. My son couldn’t be happier.

“[Max] is growing up with so much love around him and I’m definitely always going to keep it that way,” she continued. “I’m looking forward to the movie coming out, and this entire next chapter in my whole life — I really couldn’t be more excited.”

When it comes to her critics, Christina defended her decisions, and said she does not act on impulse.

“I definitely have always been smart about the choices that I make and why I make them,” she told Shaun. “As long as my son is happy — which he is — I will continue to work hard to ensure that and to put together a body of work that he can be proud of.”
