Katy Perry recently revealed that Russell Brand dumped her in a text message and, while it seemed like a harsh thing to do, it's apparently all the rage in Hollywood. The "Part of Me" pop star is the latest celeb to admit to having gotten the boot via text message.
Here are a few other celebrities who claim they got dumped by a digital "Dear John" letter.
"The X Factor" judge may one of the richest and most powerful men in the entertainment business, but even that didn't make him immune to a digital dumping from his girlfriend of six years, Terri Seymour.
The country sweetheart's relationship with "Gossip Girl" actor Chace Crawford didn't last long--and neither did their breakup. Underwood told Extra that she and Crawford ended their months-long romance with a text message.
"We broke up over text so it wasn't even like...it was like 'Peace out,'" she said. "It just didn't work."
Charlie Sheen certainly wasn't "winning" on the day that he received a text from his "goddess" Bree Olson, telling him that they were through. However, Sheen didn't wallow over the breakup (he did, after all, still have another goddess to hang out with at the time). In fact, Sheen discussed the breakup during a 2011 live show in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., telling the crowd that Olson told him she was leaving him in a text message.
It's never fun to get dumped, but it's less fun if it happens while a camera crew is following you around. In 2006, the former Mr. Britney Spears received word (via text message) that his wife was divorcing him while he was filming an episode of the reality show "Exposed." A camera crew from MuchMusic was in tow as Federline, who had been talking about how strong his relationship with Spears was, got the bad news.
The WWE superstar's relationship with comedian Amy Schumer got body-slammed when she sent him a text message to end their relationship. During a 2012 interview with Howard Stern, Schumer said she broke up with Ziggler because he was too "athletic" in the bedroom. Schumer said she regretted sending the text because it really hurt the pro wrestler's feelings.
