It's official! Awards season is underway.

The nominees for the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards — celebrating the very best in film and television — were announced Thursday morning.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson were nominated for \"True Detective,\" and Reese Witherspoon was nominated for \"Wild.\"

The reveal featured nods for "True Detective's" leading men Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, Reese Witherspoon for "Wild," and many more of the usual suspects across film and television. (See the full list below.)

But as always, the list included a few surprises — especially when it came to those excluded from the nods. Despite big awards buzz, both director Angelina Jolie and her highly anticipated true war drama "Unbroken" were left off the list of honorees.

Also among the missing: Clint Eastwood and his latest directorial effort, "American Sniper."

But there was good news for Meryl Streep, who gained praise for her role in "Into the Woods," as her best supporting actress nod marks her 29th Globe nomination.

After the announcement was made Thursday morning, Eddie Redmayne called into TODAY and revealed he feels "absolutely amazing."

Redmayne received the best actor nod for his portrayal of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking in "The Theory of Everything" and said, "From the second Felicity Jones and I took on this story, it felt like such an amazing mixture of great privilege but great responsibility. We were so thrilled when Stephen Hawking and [wife] Jane saw the film and they were kind about it, but to hear that audiences and people are responding, and to get this … nomination is absolutely extraordinary for us."

Jones, who made the best actress roundup for her part as Redmayne's on-screen wife, agreed, telling TODAY, "It's absolutely fantastic" and that she's thrilled to be recognized alongside the likes of Julianne Moore, Rosamund Pike, Jennifer Aniston and Witherspoon.

"I've just been so admiring of their work for so many years," she explained. "You never expect your name to be among that list."

That was a similar sentiment to the one shared by Patricia Arquette, who found herself in the mix with best supporting actress nominees, including Emma Stone, Keira Knightley, Jessica Chastain and Streep.

"It feels great," the "Boyhood" star told TODAY. "I think those actress are brilliant and to be in that company is really incredible — and I didn't ever expect that in this moment in my life, at 46 years old."

For "Selma" star David Oyelowo, getting his first best actor nomination at 38 has helped him to keep in all in perspective.

"It's exciting, but it's not going to redefine who I am," he admitted.

But landing the role of Martin Luther King Jr. in the first place was redefining.

"God told me that I was going to play Martin Luther King in the movie 'Selma,'" he said. And three years later, that's just what happened.
