Another incredible tale of animal survival.

A tiny injured parma wallaby joey was found outside of her mother's pouch "dirty, cold, bruised, but alert," according to a San Diego Zoo press release.

"On the morning of July 5, keepers found a tiny female joey, weighing only a little over 2 ounces, lying on the ground at the morning check. The hairless baby had been ejected from her mother’s pouch. Veterinarians were alerted and the animal was immediately transferred to the Zoo’s Jennings Center for Zoological Medicine."

The little joey, camed Tinka (an Aboriginal name meaning “daylight”) has been with the zoo for nearly three months, and doing well, but hey have kept her out of the public view to provide the proper care for her.

The San Diego Zoo is now hoping to raise funds for a specially designed pouch to help with the development of marsupials like Trinka. To donate, please go to Animal Care Wish List.
