Athens is a city that pays to feed more than 2,000 strays. Since 2003, homeless dogs have been neutered, vaccinated, identified with microchips and given collars and tags.

As austerity measures were handed out to combat the Greek financial crisis, there was talk of cutting funds for the city's stray dog program.

Apparently Sausage won’t sit for that and takes part in every protest, dodging tear gas and barking at riot police.

Animal officials call Sausage "a symbol of freedom."
