Pinot Meow? Wine for cats is now a thing

Catnip isn't enough any more, apparently, for cat owners who want to kick back and sip with their felines.

Having hooked our felines on catnip years ago, the next logical vice to hand over to the furry critters was clearly ... our love of the grape.

Now it's here! Thanks to Colorado-based Apollo Peak, wine for cats is real and it's spec-cat-ular!

Now, before you have a hissy fit, bear in mind that the "wine" is non-alcoholic. It's also actually made with beets, not grapes. Coming in delightfully punny flavors like Pinot Meow and Moscato, single-serving bottles go for about $5; 8-ounce bottles are about $12.

Plus, according to the company's website, the drink has health benefits.

"All of our cat wine products have a proprietary blend that includes all-natural organically grown catnip, fresh beets and natural preservatives to help hold the taste and color," the company says on its website. "We believe in natural ingredients for our particularly classy feline friends."

There's even an "endorsement" by company spokescat Apollo, who explains in a blog post that the key ingredient is that classic green throwback: catnip. And why beets? "For the color, silly."

"I just didn't see any reason why humans should be the only ones able to enjoy a delicious nightcap," Apollo noted.

For what it's worth, since all the ingredients are natural, it's safe for dogs and humans, too.

This isn't the first time wine for cats has hit the market; in 2013 Japanese B&H Lifes began selling Nyan Nyan Nouveau.
