To get a jump on our holiday shopping, TODAY brought a taste of Main Street to the plaza.
Al Roker sampled the goods from a few small businesses — Rifle Paper Co., Pushcart Coffee and The Salty Paw — to celebrate Small Business Saturday with the help of our sponsor, American Express.
Rifle Paper Co.
Rifle Paper Co. was founded by the husband-wife team Anna and Nathan Bond. Riflepaperco.com now sells stationery and greeting cards across the globe and at a retail store in Winter Park, Florida.
"I try to write a handwritten note to somebody every day, and great paper really helps," Al said before picking up a notebook.
With three locations in New York City, Pushcart Coffee small-batch roasts its coffee in Brooklyn, and almost all of their coffees come from direct trade relationships with farmers they know and trust. They also sell homemade chocolate chunk cookies.
“I gotta tell you, those cookies are crazy,” Al said after sampling the creation.
The Salty Paw
Amanda Zink opened Salty Paw almost 10 years ago in the South Street Seaport area of New York City, and came to the plaza with her Maltese, Theo. Her store sells "Doggy Beer" (non-alcoholic) and specialty baked treats and offers facials and "pawdicures" at its grooming spa.
Al picked up some treats for his dog, Pepper.
