A baby on the way, excitement mixed with fear, and happy news that could turn sad? It sounds like the tear-jerking drama that might unfold on an episode of "This Is Us."
But this drama wasn't part of the plot for one of the show's stars.
In fact, actress Alexandra Breckenridge worried that her real-life joy would interfere with the plot — and ultimately, her employment.
Breckenridge announced her pregnancy to fans via Instagram three months ago, but she told her "This Is Us" bosses about it before that.
"I was like, 'I’m gonna get fired,'" the 35-year-old revealed in an interview with Us Weekly. "I was scared to tell (producers) because I thought it would cause issues for production."
On the hit series, she plays Sophie, ex-wife and lifelong on again/off again love to Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley).
"I called (show creator Dan Fogelman) and said, ‘I’m sorry. I’m pregnant,'" she recalled.
But as it turned out, she had nothing to fear.
"He was just like, 'Oh, that’s amazing! Congratulations!'" she said. "He’s so nice."
So now, she, like many pregnant actresses before her, is simply adjusting her wardrobe as needed to hide the bundle of joy.
And this isn't her first bundle, either. Breckenridge and husband Casey Hooper welcomed their first child, son Jack, to the world one year ago.
As for what she's expecting in the future on "This Is Us," she didn't give away any spoilers, but Breckenridge did offer up her personal wish for Kevin and Sophie.
"They’ve been off and on since they were children," she said. "I think that eventually it’s gonna work out for them, or at least I hope it does. I think they have a bond that’s kind of unbreakable."
