We posted a heartbreaking story from the Daily Mail last Friday about a 17-year-old Nebraska mother named Jayla Hamm who helped her 19-year-old boyfriend Corde Honea duct-tape her own toddler to a wall; the couple then teased and photographed the child for their own entertainment. Thinking the incident was "funny," Hamm showed the photographs to a friend, who in turn alerted the authorities. Both Hamm and Honea were then arrested, charged and convicted. While Hamm's boyfriend was sentenced to three to five years for intentional child abuse (with an additional 12 to 24 months appended stemming from separate firearm charges), Hamm was only sentenced to 10 days in jail with two years' probation. Weeks later, while Nebraska health officials say they will continue to monitor the situation, Jayla Hamm's 2-year-old has been returned to her from state care. Parents, do you think the decision to return the child to Hamm's care was a sound one? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
