Former TODAY correspondent Sara Haines (now of ABC News) has some extra-special news to report: She’s a mom!
Haines, 38, gave birth to Alec Richard Shifrin at 1:52 p.m. on Saturday in New York City. The baby weighed in at a healthy 7 lbs and 5 oz, and ABC News reports that Haines is doing great. This is her first son with husband Max Shifrin.

Like a true media force, Haines shared her hospital experience live on Periscope. Social media during labor isn't for the faint of heart, especially for a first-time birth -- but we can’t say we’re shocked!

Haines started out in the NBC page program, then moved into TODAY as a production coordinator. When she expressed interest in eventually having an on-air role, the ladies of TODAY warmly welcomed her onto the show.

Haines became a contributing correspondent on TODAY's fourth hour from 2009-13, when she moved over to "Good Morning America."

Good luck on your biggest undertaking yet, Sara!
