When the Beach Boys sang "let's go surfin' now," they probably didn't have Bethany Hamilton in mind. But the six-months-pregnant surfer took that message to heart: An adorable baby bump didn't keep her off the waves!
Recent photos show the surfer, who in 2003 lost her left arm to a shark attack, hitting the waves off Kauai like the pro she is.
Is it dangerous? For an amateur, possibly — but Hamilton knows what she's doing. Last year, TODAY.com profiled pregnant surfer Kristi Olivares, who also took to the waves while pregnant, and she said her doctor (a surfer himself) approved of her choice to return to the waves.
Hamilton, 25, and husband Adam Dirks, 27, made their baby announcement in February with a sweet video on Instagram and YouTube. "We have a little surprise for you ... baby on board!" Hamilton said in the video.
"She's pregnant!" added Dirks.
The couple, who wed in 2013, went on to say in the video that she was 22 weeks pregnant. Added Hamilton, "Life's kinda gonna be changing and kinda just starting to prep for bringing a new little being into the world."
A world that's undoubtedly going to include lots of trips to the beach. Hang ten, Bethany!
