A smart-aleck selfie taken by a man standing beside his wife just minutes before she gave birth is eliciting cringes from knowing parents around the world.
The photo shows Gil Solano with a huge smile on his face while his pained wife is seen in the background, struggling to give birth.
“My wife wanted to make sure that someone took a picture of the expression on our faces when our daughter was born today. So I took one,” he wrote in a caption of the photo, which he posted to Reddit.

The photo has been viewed more than 2.5 million times since it went up Monday.
While it has garnered some laughs and congratulatory comments, it mainly has drawn sarcasm from Reddit users questioning Solano's judgment.
“This is awesome, but you might be dead when she regains full mental capacity and finds this,” one user wrote.

“Today your family gained one life, and lost another,” said another.
And this: “News: Recent new father is found mysteriously dead, likely choked on his smartphone. Newly widowed mother unable to be reached. More @10pm.”
Solano put everyone's fears to rest a day later, when he noted that his wife actually found the picture funny.
“I actually took this pic to send to her brothers who kept asking how it was going. I showed it to her in between pushes and she cracked up,” he wrote. “Now I'm reading her all of you guys comments while she feeds our healthy 7lb 6 oz girl. P.S. Her mom took pics of our reactions 10 mins later.”
Solano also posted a more appropriate photo of his wife, again in the background but this time smiling at their new daughter.
"My two obsessions..." he wrote.
