Dressing your baby... it's all fun and games until there's a diaper blowout. An infant can make parents feel as though they have their own little baby doll to dress up in frilly gowns and adorable sweater vests, but there's a more serious side to dressing baby — making sure that they're dressed appropriately for the weather.

In this installment of TODAY's "New Baby Basics" video series, TODAY producer Patrice Poltzer and her husband, Olly Jones, share tips for dressing a baby.

How many layers do babies really need? Should you go with snaps or buttons? Poltzer cautions parents to enjoy those days of dressing baby in cute skinny jeans and tiny sport coats while they last, as kids quickly develop their own opinions about what they want to wear.

"Whatever style you'd like to dress your baby in, take advantage now because there's an expiration date on that," jokes Poltzer.
