On the one hand, children are often their parents' biggest fans. On the other hand, when they're really small, they may not have the same enthusiasm mommy or daddy may have about big awards.
That's what Jane Krakowski (who's starring in the new film "Pixels") learned when she got her fifth Emmy nomination last week, this time for her role as a pampered but neurotic uptown New York wife in "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."
As she explained, she was on vacation alone with her 4-year-old son Bennett when she got a call that she'd been nominated for an Emmy. "I was so surprised and shocked ... and we'd just gotten so much love for 'Kimmy' ... and I hung up the phone and I went, 'Bennett, Mommy's been nominated for an Emmy!' And he looked at me, entirely blank, and then went, 'OK. Can we play now?'"
It turned out well: "We played all day," she laughed.
That said, Krakowski did have a couple of opportunities during her visit to the show to hold an actual Emmy, and even act as if she might be able to take it home.
Not so fast, missy!
"Pixels" opens in theaters on July 24. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's" first season is available on Netflix.
