How Marlo Thomas kick-started my 'empty nest' life

I am a mother of two great kids—a daughter who is married and a son who is about to graduate from college. They kept me busy when they were at home, so it was difficult for me when they left the nest.

I have worked many part-time jobs to keep busy, but I could never find a job that I was truly passionate about—that is, until I planned my daughter’s wedding. The year leading up to her wedding was so fun and exciting for us. I enjoyed helping my daughter plan her wedding so much that I didn’t want it to end! Many of my daughter’s wedding vendors told me that I was more organized and prepared than many of the wedding planners they have dealt with, and that this is what I should be doing.

Since my daughter’s wedding, I have authored a Wedding Planner QuickStudy guide (published by BarCharts), which will be sold in stores nationwide. I am also currently enrolled in a Wedding Planning Course at a local college.

I recently submitted an essay for the “Kick Start Your Life TODAY with Marlo Thomas” series. I received a call from a TODAY producer and after a couple phone interviews, I was selected to participate in a segment on the TODAY show. I am thrilled because the segment also includes David Tutera. In my opinion, he is one of the best wedding planners in the country. To top it all off, meeting and being interviewed by Marlo Thomas was very exciting.

I have found a new purpose for my life, a passion, and I have a plan. My goal is to work on a part-time basis, helping busy brides plan their weddings. I hope to have my wedding planning business underway in the very near future!
