Even the Duchess of Cambridge has to face school drop-off.
Duchess Kate disclosed she has been taking her 4-year-old son, Prince George, to school during a speech to educators and mental health professionals.
“As a mother, just getting used to leaving my own child at the school gates, it is clear to me that it takes a whole community to help raise a child,” she told the audience at the Place2Be School Leaders Forum in London.
“Whether we are school leaders, teachers, support staff or parents, we are all in this together. We are all working to give children the emotional strength they need to face their future lives and thrive.”
The duchess is a patron of Place2Be, a mental health charity that promotes early intervention to help children battle mental health issues. The charity mirrors the royal's longtime work with kids and young adults' mental welfare.
The former Kate Middleton, 35, had missed George’s first day of school in September because she had been suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a rare pregnancy complication she also experienced with her two previous pregnancies. (She and Prince William are expecting their third child in April.) The condition also prompted her to cancel several formal engagements at the time.
George was instead accompanied by his father, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, on Sept. 7, when he started his school year at the private Thomas’s Battersea School, located in an upper middle-class London neighborhood just a few miles from Kensington Palace.
The duchess re-emerged in public in October at an event with her husband that helped raise awareness about mental health. She also made a surprise appearance at a charity event held at London's Paddington Station.
Last week, Kate felt well enough to play tennis with some young children attending a program that teaches young children how to play the sport.
In addition to Prince George, the duke and duchess also have a 2-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte.
