Are you a long-term lactating lady looking to live life in the limelight? Are you a co-sleeping couple willing to open your bedroom door to the judging world outside? If so, we have the show for you. The creators of "Dance Moms" are working on a new show -- "Extreme Parenting" -- which will feature some of today's most controversial parenting practices.
The new show, expected to hit airwaves this fall, is planning to highlight some of the more, well, extreme parenting styles that have been making headlines and making heads shake lately.
The debate that followed the now-infamous Time magazine breast-feeding cover, showing a mother breast-feeding her 3-year-old son, is what spurred producer Jeff Collins to put the spotlight on parenting practices for his next reality show. "We've become a country of extremes," said Collins, president of the Collins Avenue production company. "Americans are equally divided in the direction they think our country should go in and that filters down to everything, including how they parent."
Each episode will focus on a different practice -- from couples who co-sleep to parents who live in the diaperless world of elimination communication -- and will introduce us to a group of parents who are passionately dedicated to it. But what if grandma thinks elimination communication is a load of crap (probably all over the floor)? We'll hear all about that, too.
The show, which is being filmed all over the country, will of course feature non-vaccinators, one of today's most controversial parenting subsects. We'll also be introduced to people who go beyond homeschooling their kids and have instead chosen "unschooling," a practice discussed on TODAY last year.
"I'm fascinated by the choices other people make and how they're judged for those choices," Collins said.
What about you? Do these parenting practices sound "extreme" to you? Which of these parenting styles are you most fascinated by?
