Crib notes: Why Gen X should be called Gen D (as in, divorce)

Should Gen X be re-named the Divorce Generation? That's what some are calling people who were kids during the 1980's, which was the first generation to have experienced a widespread divorce rate amongst their parents. Some even suggest that the question “When did your parents get divorced?” is the defining question of this generation, the way "Where were you when Kennedy was shot?" was the def

Should Gen X be re-named the Divorce Generation? That's what some are calling people who were kids during the 1980's, which was the first generation to have experienced a widespread divorce rate amongst their parents. Some even suggest that the question “When did your parents get divorced?” is the defining question of this generation, the way "Where were you when Kennedy was shot?" was the defining question for people who came of age in the 1960's. Now that the kids who were the products of broken homes are creating homes and families of their own, many are keeping a close eye on their marriages to see how their parents' divorces affect how they approach their own unions -- and splits.

Sorry kid, you'll have to skip the sunscreen today -- there's a chance another student may be allergic to it. A young girl in Britain was sent home with an extensive sunburn after a school sports day because school officials banned sunscreen on the chance that another student might be allergic to it. Her parents say they sent her to school wearing sunscreen and with a supply which she needed to reapply during the day. They say school administrators had previously told them sunscreen was not allowed on site. School officials have said that parents are welcome to come to the school during lunch to reapply the ointment. So, for kids whose parents work or have other obligations during the lunch hour, the message seems to be burn, baby, burn.

Victoria's Secret model, Miranda Kerr, says she named her son after her ex-boyfriend -- say what?! Before you get all worked up, it's actually a pretty sweet tribute to a young man who died much too soon. Kerr bestowed the middle name, Christopher, on her son after her childhood sweetheart, Christopher Middlebrook, who was tragically killed in a car crash while just a teenager. Miranda says that though the two were young, they had talked about spending the rest of their lives together and that she's always wanted to honor him in this way. This not only says a lot about her character but about her husband, Orlando Bloom's, as well. First he wowed us with his amazing dedication during her labor and delivery and now he's making us swoon all over again by being secure and generous enough to name his son after his wife's ex. Seeing him looking so darn cute while holding their baby doesn't hurt any, either.

Will Disney alum, Demi Lovato's new single, "Skyscraper" be an inspiration to teen girls everywhere? Lovato, who has received treatment for an eating disorder, depression and cutting, says that the song was her cry for help. Some are saying that young girls have needed a song with substance that they can relate to and that the powerful message in "Skyscraper" may be just that.

For moms, three kids may be your ticket to SAHMdom. A new study out of Australia shows that moms who have three or more kids are more likely to stay home with their children than moms who have only one or two kids. The younger the mom, the more likely this is to be true. Many anticipated that the high costs of childcare for young kids explained the discrepancy, but even as their kids get older, the moms of larger broods remain less likely to re-enter the workforce.
