Crib notes: Circumcision party goes for Guinness record

It's a party and everyone's invited! It's a circumcision party- still want to come? At least 1,500 pre-teen boys in the Philippines RSVP'd yes to the event, which organizers have submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records. The party offered safe, free circumcisions on makeshift tables to rural families who might otherwise have found the rite-of-passage procedure to be a financial hardship.Bac

Back in the day, if kids wanted to talk to their grandparents they had to dial them up - on a rotary phone, no less. There wasn't voicemail, let alone Skype, Twitter, Facebook and texting to communicate with great-grandmothers. Kids today have no idea how easy they have it. While many parents have lamented the amount of time their kids spend online and on their smart phones, some are starting to realize that today's youth are using cutting-edge technologies to connect with their grandparents(and sometimes great-grandparents - go Granny!), who often live far away. Nicely played kids, your grandparents just chipped in and upgraded your plan to include unlimited texting.

Jackie O. and Princess Di better watch out because there's a new fashion plate on the block -- Mom. A new book, "My Mom: The Style Icon," showcases a collection of photographs of stylish mothers before they had kids. The pictures were sent in from adult children around the world, spanning a number of decades and trends. Even for women who remember how cool and stylish they were before they had kids, it can still sometimes be surprising to realize that their moms were also once hip and glam.

Stories of kidnapped children often have tragic endings so it's heart-warming when one ends with the happy reunion of mother and baby. A young mother in California was befriended by a woman who posed as a daycare worker for San Diego City College. The woman encouraged the mom to register for a program for young moms at the college and offered to watch the baby while the mother handled the paperwork. While the mom was inside, the woman took off with the baby, who was happily found and reunited with its mom just hours later.

Playgroups, the anxiety-inducing gatherings, where the worry over whether people will play nice and share with other group members can riddle any mom with angst. Then, they also have to worry about how their kids will be treated. We may be out of junior high but sometimes joining a mommy-and-me group can make you feel like you never left.
