It’s official: We are “Crazy In Love” with this Beyonce-themed baby shower!
The Bey-themed affair, which took place on Wednesday, was thrown for expectant mom (and super Beyonce fan) Katie O’Connell Kaz by her co-workers at the New York City-based company Humanscale. Just like Beyonce, who gave birth to twins in June, O’Connell Kaz is expecting two babies (or “bey-beys” as her co-workers referred to them). She had no idea that her co-workers were planning a party for her.
"It was a surprise!" Riley Andreu, who helped throw the shower, told TODAY. "She was so happy. She loves Beyoncé and we all had a great time."
The baby shower included donuts from Brooklyn (which Beyonce’s husband JAY-Z would surely approve of), a photo booth complete with Beyonce-themed props, and a congratulatory card made by illustrator Hayden Williams. And, of course, lemonade was the drink of choice!
"We managed to keep it pretty low-cost. Minus food, I think it was $100-150," Andreu said. "We made everything ourselves! We're a marketing department full of creatives, so it wasn't hard once we all put our heads together. I'm a graphic designer so I made all the signs. We all had our hand in something!"
To top it off, O’Connell Kaz and her co-workers gathered to take a Beyonce-themed group photo, with the mom-to-be donning a veil and standing in front of a flower arch, a la Beyonce in her famous pregnancy announcement Instagram photo from February 1.
She also took several solo portraits, cradling her baby bump in one. In another photo, O'Connell Kaz posed with two paper babies to emulate the photo Beyonce posted on Instagram July 13 that showed her holding her one-month-old twins, Rumi and Sir Carter. Unlike Beyonce, though, who gave birth to a boy and a girl, O'Connell Kaz is expecting twin boys. They are due in October.
Andreu told TODAY that choosing the shower theme was a no-brainer.
"Katie announced she was having twins a little after Beyoncé did, so when it came time to plan her shower the theme just clicked," she said.
Andreu shared a few photos from the shower on her Twitter account July 26 and has been shocked by the response they've gotten.
"It's crazy!! We never thought it would get this much of a reaction," she said. "I was just sharing it on Twitter because I was proud of our work, and it started to get traction almost immediately. We keep sharing the articles with each other and we have a few displayed on our office fridge."
Andreu said that the shower has set the bar very high for the next parties the department throws.
"We have a few parties scheduled for the near future," she said. "We definitely have some big shoes to follow after this one!
