Former Olympic skier Bode Miller and his wife, former pro volleyball player Morgan Miller, haven’t chosen a name for their baby daughter. They’re hoping you can help.
The couple announced in December they had welcomed a little girl, the eighth child in their clan. They have been calling her Ocho, which is Spanish for “eight,” and are waiting to see what she’s like before they decide what to name her.
“It’s hard because her personality is different, and I think we’re all trying to get used to it,” Bode said when he and Morgan appeared with the baby Wednesday on TODAY.
“She’s stumped us on names so far. We have a lot that we like, but she hasn’t smiled or high-fived or anything when we say them to her, and we say them to her all the time.”
Savannah Guthrie wondered what few names they have in mind for their daughter, who’s now 7 weeks old.
“Our three front-runners are Skyler, Scarlett, and calling her Lettie, or Olivia, and calling her Liv,” said Morgan, 34. “All kind of have a special meaning to it. So we may have to reach out to our social media followers and ask for some assistance because she has not really been giving us many answers.”
“I’m a huge fan of Liv, Olivia,” said Bode, who now runs a ski academy in Colorado. “It’s a little bit frustrating that it’s one of the most popular names this year because most of the names of our children aren’t terribly popular, but we’re not going to let that stand in the way, obviously.”
The Millers are also parents to sons Nash, 6, Easton, 3, twins Asher and Aksel, 2, and late daughter Emeline, who died in a drowning accident in 2018 at 19 months old. (Bode also has two children from previous relationships, son Nate, 8, and daughter Dace, 13.) They say their latest addition to their family will be their last.
Bode, 44, says their daughter’s presence in the house is a welcome addition to the many boys in their family.
"Emmy was such a great balance because she was such a powerhouse and then when she passed, it was shocking because you really felt this energetic shift in the house," he said. "Obviously we were all suffering and everything, too, but there was this gap there for all the boys. And now they have this little girl. It just makes them gentle. You'd be blown away."
ode and Morgan, who became advocates for water safety following Emmy’s death, revealed last May they were expecting another baby. A week after that, they announced on TODAY they were having a girl.
“I feel like I haven’t fully got my head wrapped around it because every time I start thinking about it, I just start crying,” Morgan said at the time. “To get to experience a relationship with a little girl again ... is going to be unbelievable.”
