Having a miscarriage is tough enough… imagine having a miscarriage when your mother-in-law has 19 kids (and counting).

The Duggar family appeared on TODAY this morning to make a happy announcement: Josh and Anna Duggar are expecting their second child, the second grandchild for famously fertile Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, the stars of TLC’s reality show “19 Kids and Counting.” Josh, 22, is their oldest child. He and Anna, also 22, have a daughter, Mackynzie, who turned 1 on Oct. 8; their new arrival is due June 19.

Anna told TODAY’s Meredith Vieira that she earlier had a miscarriage, and she decided to go public with her story because she knows it is so common: Fifteen to 20 percent of known pregnancies end in miscarriage, according to the Mayo Clinic, but the real number is probably much higher because many women miscarry before they know they’re pregnant.

“It was very hard to go through the excitement of finding out we were expecting a little one and then losing it,” Anna Duggar told Vieira. “One thing that really helped was thanking God, thanking him in the good times and thanking him when things don’t go the way we expected them to … If you thank God it really, really releases you and helps you to be able to go on with life.”

Michelle Duggar also had a miscarriage while on the pill after her first child – the experience was part of what led the couple to eschew contraception and “ask God to bless them with as many children as he saw fit.”

How do you feel about the Duggars' announcement? And if you've had a miscarriage, what helped you get through it?
