Brrrr! The cold weather — and accompanying snow — that has swept much of the nation has many people thinking of warmer climes.
And whether you’re actually heading off for a warm-weather vacation or just looking for some inspiration to keep hitting the gym for the summer days ahead, it’s time to think about what to wear on the beach or at the pool.
This season’s swimwear has a thoroughly modern, sophisticated look, with lots of options for sporty styles.
Are you ready for a sneak peek? It’s all right here in the latest edition of our weekly fashion and beauty update.
Take care of what you bare! Even the most modest suit can lead to a painful burn if you are exposing a previously untanned section of skin (for example, a suit with cut-out sides or stomach). Be sure to apply a good-quality sunscreen, such as Fresh Sun Shield SPF 30.
If you’re into active water sports or just enjoy a more sporty approach to the beach, you will love this season’s clean and sporty swimsuit trends. First of all, the halter top is big news, whether as part of a one-piece suit or the top of a bikini. You will even find halter styles with crisp white collars attached to frame the face. The good news? Halters are very flattering for most body types. (They also minimize broad shoulders). If you’re going for a bikini, the boy-short silhouette is a strong option.
You might try shopping in a sporting goods store if you really want a true sports look — many of the high-end diving manufacturers are featuring modified versions of classic sportswear that is right at home poolside.
Look for a coordinating cover-up top, skirt or skort when shopping for your swimwear. Most designers make them these days, and you will find that an extra piece that takes you from pool to lunch — or out for a quick shopping spree — will be a real lifesaver on those hot Caribbean days.
What’s the number-one trend in swimwear this year? You guessed right — it’s the “itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka-dot bikini” (although polka dots of any color are A-OK). This trend is reflective of the retro styles you will see everywhere for spring, with just about everyone jumping on the vintage bandwagon. Key styles include the bandeau, the halter top and the mega-return of the string bikini … if you dare. While we’re really only seeing two-piece polka-dot swimsuits right now, we bet the trend will take off and, come summer, one-piece lovers will be able to pick up a dotted maillot or two.
Going for the itsy bitsy bikini? Congratulations! We suggest you get your skin in shape for its big unveiling with a body-smoothing skin care product. Let It Show Bare Body Skin Enhancer from Origins promises to firm, tone, sleek and smooth your skin so everything looks tight and toned. It also gives you just a hint of golden color to disguise any discolorations and flaws.
If you want to splurge, go for a piece directly from Pucci. They’re well designed, and your treasure will be in style forever. And remember, if it’s not from Pucci, the trend is a “Pucci-inspired” geometric print, which you will find reinterpreted at all price points across the board.
