The veteran NBC News anchor was discussing Senator Mitch McConnell's re-election with Rachel Maddow live on MSNBC Tuesday when a doomsday-sounding alarm went off that turned out to be Brokaw's phone. Like a pro, he smoothly fielded "the call" live on air and segued right into a joke about getting groceries.

Brokaw's ringer also answered a burning question for Savannah Guthrie.

Brokaw's smoothness during an unexpected moment was reminiscent of his colleague, Andrea Mitchell, who calmly kept reporting from the 2008 Republican National Convention as she was engulfed by a host of balloons during the celebration.
