Every week day morning you can watch Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Al Roker and Ann Curry on the “Today” show, but the week of May 12, they tried something new. Viewers got to watch as they traded their jobs and tried new careers for a day. Monday, NBC’s “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno wished you a “good morning” on “Today” as Katie and he swapped jobs, and as the week progressed, Ann traded places with soccer star Mia Hamm, Matt traded with NYC cab driver Dave Pollack and Al swapped with chef Daniel Boulud. MONDAY, MAY 12: KATIE COURIC SWAPS WITH JAY LENO TO KICK OFF the series, “Tonight Show” host, Jay Leno, took over Katie Couric’s seat during Monday’s show. From interviews to cooking segments, Leno got a taste of what it’s like at the other end of the day. In exchange, while Jay filled in her shoes at “Today,” Katie prepped for Monday night’s “Tonight Show” in Los Angeles. It’s the first time “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” welcomed a guest host, and Katie tested out her talents on the late night world. For the show, Katie delivered the nightly monologue as well as interview guests including actor Mike Myers — with whom she worked on “Austin Powers in Goldmember” and “American Idol” judge Simon Cowell. The show concluded with a musical performance by British pop star Robbie Williams.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 14: ANN CURRY TRADES PLACES WITH MIA HAMM On Wednesday, May 14, Ann Curry strapped on her shin guards as she traded places with soccer champion Mia Hamm. Instead of reading the news, Ann was screaming “GOOOOAAAAALLLLL,” as she got her chance to be Mia Hamm for the day. Ann scrimmaged with the Washington Freedom of the Women’s United Soccer Association, and got to partake in other team activities for the day. Hamm, the world’s all-time leading scorer, took over some of Curry’s regular duties for the day, live on “Today.”
THURSDAY, MAY 15: MATT LAUER SWAPS WITH A NEW YORK CITY CAB DRIVER On Thursday, May 15, Matt Lauer buckled up and took fares as he hit the streets and traded places with New York City cab driver, Dave Pollack. Matt studied his city street maps, and learned the cab driver’s etiquette guidelines before he strapped on his seatbelt Thursday morning. And yes, serving as co-anchor with Couric, was real-life NYC cab driver, Dave Pollack. Did Matt do as good a job getting a fare, as the driver did holding his own on live television? FRIDAY, MAY 16: AL ROKER TRADES PLACES WITH MASTER CHEF DANIEL BOULUD Al Roker took over the reigns at the heralded New York City restaurant Daniel when he traded places with renowned Chef Daniel Boulud on Friday, May 16. Al had his culinary skills put to the test as he became the critically acclaimed restaurateur for the day. As Al went about all of the daily duties of running three of NYC’s top restaurants — which runs from planning the menu to serving the customers — Boulud tried his hand at live television by broadcasting weather reports, as well as handling a segment or two.
