'Today' lends a hand

Al Roker visits cities across the country for a weeklong series on making a difference.

Now, more than ever, with all that’s happening in our world, so many Americans need a little help. Because of this, “Today’s” Al Roker is once again hitting the pavement and traveling across the country to lend a hand.

For the fifth year in a row, Al is scheduled to travel the country with a large truck filled with goods that meet the needs of five different charities across the U.S. Learn more about the organizations he visits and how you can help:

Day 1: LAS VEGAS, NEV.

Contact:702-382-5447 Fax: 702-382-5801 Started by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the mission of the Greater Las Vegas Inner-City Games is to provide opportunities for inner-city youth to participate in after-school and summer activities in sports, educational, cultural and community-enrichment programs; to build confidence and self-esteem; to encourage youths to say "no" to gangs, drugs and violence, and "yes" to hope, learning and life.

Day 2: PORTLAND, ORE.

Schoolhouse Supplies operates a volunteer-run, free classroom-supply store for teachers working in Portland's Public Schools. Teachers from nearly 130 schools shop in our store each week, gathering school supplies for 50,000 children, 20,000 of whom are living at, or below, the poverty line.

More than 100 teachers, who spend $600 to $1,000 annually to purchase school supplies for their classrooms, line up to shop each week in our store. The community has helped us distribute more than $4.2 million in free supplies to classrooms in need since our inception in 2000.

Jackets for Jobs, Inc. Michigan WORKS! Affiliate strives to empower economically disadvantaged women who are trained and job-ready by enhancing their employment opportunities. We provide professional clothing and training seminars to build self-confidence and prepare them to successfully enter the workforce.

Day 4: WEST PALM BEACH, FLA.

Daily Bread Food Bank provides food and other groceries to approximately 1,200 not-for-profit organizations in South Florida, each of which serves the residents of the area.
