THE DEAL: Google said Thursday it will buy restaurant review service Zagat for an undisclosed amount to grow its efforts to connect people with local businesses.
THE PLAN: Google will integrate the business with its search and mapping products.
THE BACKGROUND: Zagat was founded in 1979 by husband and wife team Tim and Nina Zagat. It offers reviews and ratings for restaurants in over 100 cities worldwide, based mostly on diner surveys. The company tried to sell itself back in 2008, but was unsuccessful.
