A job in morning TV means a life of early hours and lots of coffee.

After throwing those coffee cups away each day, Ian Hunt, who operates the online graphics for TODAY, brewed up an idea.

Hunt has to wake up around 2:30 a.m. every day, and relies on coffee to keep him going. Hunt says he drinks about three cups a day, and one morning, the face of the twin-tailed mermaid, or siren, on the Starbucks cup gave him an idea.

"One day, on my break, that smug Starbucks lady was begging for an Ambush Makeover," Hunt joked. "So I turned her into some kind of demon guitar player. I liked her better that way."

Hunt said that first doodle opened the floodgates, and he began drawing a series of characters on the cups, using the coffee giant's famous logo as the jumping-off point for each of his drawings.

"I just picked stuff I thought would look good with her face as the focal point. The face on the logo is really small too, so I'm not able to add a lot of detail," Hunt explained. "I drew characters who are bold and easily recognizable."

Here are some of Hunt's coffee cup creations:

Batgirl

Ninja Turtle

KISS

Statue of Liberty

Maleficent

Wolverine
